Finding The Right Backup Strategy For Your Data

Finding The Right Backup Strategy For Your Data: With so much, talk going on about backup of your data we come to a very significant and important aspect, which is finding a backup strategy that works for you. There are countless ways that you can back up your data and the best is you do not even need data backup software for doing the same.

The most common way of doing it by hooking up your device to an external drive where you can literally copy and paste the files you require onto the external drive. However, with newer versions coming in every now and then, files change often, especially documents and spreadsheets this is when the easy breezy task of copying the file to an external drive would not work. You may find that one fine day the document copied doesn’t open because the system doesn’t support the format. What then?

Three Simple Steps to Security

The most common and effective backup strategy used most IT experts worldwide is the three-two-one strategy. This strategy is fairly simple and proves to be highly effective.  While you could customize a strategy that would suit your requirement, however, you are guaranteed to have your data secure and if you follow these principals.

When three is not a crowd:  It is recommended that one should make and have a minimum of three copies of every file you want to protect saved in different locations. Call it the new obsessive-compulsive disorder, however, the more number of copies you have of important documents, data or anything that is important the lesser are the chances of you losing them.

Two to Tango: To save yourself from the risk of one of the formats going redundant it is always recommended that you save and store the files in at the least two formats. Remember another rule here never store the backed up copies on the same device. This is simply because if your laptop or computer crashes or the anything else happens to it if you keep your data backed up on the same laptop or computer as you’re the original files, then you lose everything both the original file and the backed up. So it is critical that you keep at least one of the copies of both formats on a second device – it could be an external hard drive, network attached drives or an online cloud service.

One to the rescue: There are no guarantees that nothing would happen your laptop or computer in which case always make it a point to store one copy each of the two formats on cloud. This would ensure that your files remain protected against eventualities such as theft, system crash and natural disasters like fire, flood, etc. The practice of saving important data on cloud could save you from the anguish of losing vital information and data.

Having laid out the strategy for backup of your data it is also important to understand that data backup software’s would help you overcome the first two hurdles easily but saving the different formats of the file on cloud is something that you need to decide and don yourself. Choosing an online/cloud backup service that is affordable and suits your requirement, is the easiest and the most secure way to store your data off-site.

  1. I’m impressed, I have to admit. Genuinely rarely should i encounter a weblog that’s both educative and entertaining, and let me tell you, you may have hit the nail about the head. Your idea is outstanding; the problem is an element that insufficient persons are speaking intelligently about. I am delighted we came across this during my look for something with this.
